After high school I continued my education in the art field at Montgomery College, Maryland as an advertising art major.
Painting then was a hobby I enjoyed in my spare time. Although life took off in another direction after
college, my love of painting was always there. First marriage, then family, then a move to Tokyo Japan in 1994.
My passion for oil painting grew stronger when I was introduced to two amazing sensei's. After taking classes with
them for four years I had my first display in the Genken Gallery at the Tokyo American Club in 1995 and it was a sucess!
In 1998 we returned to Northern Virginia. I am currently a member of the Arts Council of Fairfax, Loudoun Sketch
Club and Springfield Art Guild. I have worked privately with clients and had my work featured in the
"Centreville for the Arts" calendar (July and November) 2005. I classify myself as a photo realism artist.
I combine photo's and sketches that serve as my starting point, then simplify and exaggerate, interpret and suggest, until
I'm satisfied with my impression of a scene. Each one of my paintings has a name and a story. I mostly paint in studio
512 at the Lorton Workhouse and occasionally plein air weather permitting.
My inspiration for painting Italy comes from a trip we took in 2003.
A guide took us to Rome, Tuscany, Verona, Venice, Burano, and other side trips. The architecture was quite amazing
to see. I fell in love with the beauty of Tuscany's rolling hills, grapevines, olive groves and large lemon trees.
We went in August which I would not recommend because of the heat but my photographs came out great. I have also been
on visits with my family to Australia, Israel, Mexico, Hawaii, and all of Asia. I find my camera is a
perfect traveling companion when I can not paint on location.
I hope you have enjoyed my paintings
as much as I have enjoyed sharing them with you. Please come visit me at my studio in Lorton to view more of my paintings.
I am there every Wednesday and most Fridays and Saturdays.
